What's Going On in the Art Room!

Crazy Hair Portraits by Mrs. Curran's 4th graders!

Mrs. Beall's 1st graders created King and Queen self portraits for Art to Remember!
(Check out the gold-painted crowns!)

 inspired by the book, "Crazy Hair Day" by Barney Saltzberg

The Faces of Mr. Tilley's Class

Mr. Tilley's 5th grade class has been working hard to create their abstract foil self portraits! These have turned out great due to the dedication and craftsmanship the 5th grade artists show each day in the art room! To add patterns and lines to their portraits, the artists used colored Sharpie.  They also added color and texture by adding tissue paper hair!

We have moved on to work on our Art to Remember portraits.  These fifth grade artists are creating a realistic portrait with the freedom to use the media (material) of their choice.

King or Queen for a Day!

Most classes are now coming to Art for their second rotation of the year! This rotation, across the grades, we will focus on self portraits! We are having a blast learning how to draw ourselves by looking into the mirror and paying attention to all the details of our face!

Kinderpups are currently working on their paintings, King or Queen for a Day.  They are drawing and painting their self portrait, but adding a "royal" detail to their portrait with a golden crown!

Painting Flesh Tones

As an artist, finding a flesh tone that is "just right" can be difficult! Today, Mrs. Burger's 2nd graders used a lot of perseverance, teamwork, and focus to mix paint to create flesh tones for their current self portrait project!

Need some tips on mixing paint to create a flesh tone?

-Start with white.

-Mix a little red with your white.

-Add a little yellow and a tad bit of blue.

-Continue adding and mixing these same colors until you create a skin tone!

Another option is to start with brown paint and add black or white as needed to create your skin tone!
