News From the Art Room

Dear parents,

We have a lot of exciting things to tell you about!  Be sure to take a moment to read through this email…it is lengthy, but contains very important information on upcoming events and projects that involve your child.

Mark your calendars, tell your friends, and come out on May 16th to Huskypalooza. It is an Art and Music festival that will showcase all of the terrific work that is happening in the Harmony Art and Music programs. There will be food trucks, activities, and much more! Every single student will have a framed painting featured in our Eric Carle inspired art gallery. Live music performances from students performing original pieces as well as covers of many different styles of music will be the opening set. The last set of the night will be a performance from The Touchables, a cover band from Cincinnati. This is definitely a night you and your family won't want to miss! If you are on Facebook, please RSVP by clicking this link.  Stay tuned for more details.  (Think outdoor concert where you bring your camping chairs and picnic blankets…and think good thoughts for NO RAIN!!!)

We are excited to announce that we will be ordering Huskypalooza t-shirts!   The t-shirts will be offered in various colors and styles for $15 each and are only going to be sold during this presale.  If you are interested in purchasing a t-shirt, please return your order form with payment by Friday, March 27th.  Please make all checks payable to “Harmony Elementary PTA” and denote your child’s name in the memo.  Sales will benefit Harmony’s Art and Music Programs and cover expenses for Huskypalooza.  Wear them to school and around the community to show your school spirit, advertise the event around the community!  To sweeten the pot, the class who orders the most t-shirts will win a special in-school art session…AND an in-school music session where they will learn a song with Mr. A AND be the only class to perform at Huskypalooza…AND anyone who wears their event t-shirt to the Huskypalooza is guaranteed FREE admission!   Get those orders in!

I’m attaching the Huskypalooza flyer so you can forward to friends and family.  The more the merrier!  I’m also attaching the t-shirt order form in case you need one.

Be sure to watch for another email from me regarding a special Upcycling Unit we will be starting in April.

Thanks for making it to the middle!!    Let me know if you have any questions about Huskypalooza!

What are we learning and creating in art class?

During this art rotation, we are learning about the famous illustrator and artist, Eric Carle.  We are painting, using texture, creating collages, drawing, and mixing art media to create some amazing Eric Carle inspired pieces!

Kindergarteners are creating a flower collage inspired by The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle.

First graders are creating a firefly collage by The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle.

Second graders are creating a chameleon collage inspired by The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle.

Third graders are creating a caterpillar collage inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

Fourth graders are creating a seahorse collage inspired by Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle.

Fifth graders are creating a nighttime collage inspired by Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me by Eric Carle.

We can hardly wait to share these pieces with you!  The children have been enjoying exploring painting with various textures and creating collages from their paintings.  They have been working so hard and the collages are absolutely stunning!  All pieces from this rotation will be matted and framed and will be lining the hallways during Huskypalooza.  If you would like to purchase the framed art, the cost will be $30 at the event.  We are so proud of our creative artists and look forward to our very first school-wide art gallery!!!
